Location
The real beauty of Shepherds Dene is its peaceful setting and atmosphere. The estate is hidden from the road and not obvious to the casual traveller. It is, however, easily accessible by car and the train and bus stop in Riding Mill village.
The car driver should leave the A68 on the A695 into Riding Mill. Continue through the village, past the Wellington pub and up the hill past the speed camera (slowly!). At the end of the village take the left turn up a steep hill signposted 'Shepherds Dene and Slaley'. We are about 1.5 kilometres along this road on the left.
As it is a stiff walk up to Shepherds Dene from Riding Mill village, those coming by public transport may wish to travel to Hexham where there are taxi ranks outside both bus and rail stations.
