HAIR RESTORED

Posted on Saturday, 09 April 2011 03:00PM by
Another old master has been brilliantly restored in Annabelle Remnant's studio.  As part of the gift of Shepherd Dene, Geoffrey Newall left us three 19th oil paintings. Robinson's study of Durham Cathedral is widely regarded as one of the finest paintings of Durham Cathedral and was restored last year.  Henry Hair's painting of a river valley is almost as good now that it can be admired in its original colours.

But the talking point is where was it  painted? Is it really the Tyne Valley east of Hexham, with the Abbey in the background? Learned opinion differs so come and decide for yourself. The Hair hangs alongside work from the Overlap group of artists, our latest exhibition, but unlike their work, it is not for sale!

The photo shows a proud Jo Whitmore, a student on placement wirth Annabelle. This was her first major restoration and judging by the standard of this work, we reckon Jo has a bright future.
